CEL-SCI receives Polish government approval to commence Multikine Phase III clinical trial in head, neck cancer

CEL-SCI Corporation announced today that it has received approval to begin enrollment of patients in its Phase III clinical trial of Multikine® from the Polish Minister of Health. This approval marks a very important milestone, namely that all nine countries in the study have now given official government approval. Five of about 48 clinical centers for this global trial will be located in Poland.

MRI can determine if a patient has endometrial versus cervical cancer even when a biopsy can't make that distinction, according to a new study. Determining the primary site of a tumor helps determine appropriate cancer treatment.

Eurotrans-Bio awards 1.1 million grant to MDxHealth, NovioGendix for bladder cancer program

MDxHealth SA, a leading molecular diagnostics company in the field of personalized cancer treatment, today announced that together with partner NovioGendix B.V., a molecular diagnostics company spun out from Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre, the Netherlands, has received a USD 1.1 million grant from Eurotrans-Bio to progress its bladder cancer program.

Caliper first quarter revenue increases 25% to $35.8 million

Caliper Life Sciences, Inc., today reported its financial results for the first quarter of 2011. First quarter revenue increased to $35.8 million, or 25%, from $28.7 million in the same period of 2010.

Abnormal connections created by central nervous system linked to persistence of chronic pain

Chronic pain is an epidemic. One in four Americans suffers from chronic pain due to disease—including cancer and HIV—and the medications used to treat those diseases. One reason for the persistence of chronic pain may be that the patient's central nervous system creates abnormal connections or improves connections that shouldn't be strengthened, explains Susan G. Dorsey, PhD, RN, co-director of the School of Nursing's Center of Excellence in Disorders of Neuroregulatory Function.

Combining CT with FDG-PET improves treatment options for head, neck cancer patients

Combining computerized tomography with fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography images results in significantly more defined tumor outlines and potentially different treatment options in head and neck cancer patients compared to using CT alone, according to research presented today, at the Cancer Imaging and Radiation Therapy Symposium in Atlanta.

New PET imaging clinical trial to improve early esophageal, lung cancer detection

Northstar Healthcare acquires ownership interests in Texas based radiation therapy cancer treatment centers

Northstar Healthcare Inc. today announced that it entered into an agreement to acquire certain ownership interests in four physician owned radiation therapy cancer treatment centers from Dr. Chris Phan, a radiation oncologist. Dr. Phan is founder and Chief Executive Officer of Expert Oncology Network Solutions, LLC (EONS). EONS has been instrumental in developing and consulting with cancer centers across Texas.

Scripps Research receives $1.9 million NIH grant for prostate cancer study

The Scripps Research Institute and Tampa's Moffitt Cancer Center have been awarded more than $2 million to study the formation and progression of prostate cancer. Of the funds awarded, approximately $1.9 million will go to Scripps Research, with the remaining $138,380 supporting Moffitt Cancer Center work.

FDA grants orphan drug status to Provectus' PV-10 for liver cancer treatment

Provectus Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a development-stage oncology and dermatology biopharmaceutical company, has received orphan drug designation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for Rose Bengal, the active ingredient in its novel oncology drug PV-10, for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma, the most common form of primary liver cancer.

People in minority groups, especially black Americans, are more willing than their white counterparts to exhaust their personal financial resources to prolong life after being diagnosed with lung or colorectal cancer, according to a University of Alabama at Birmingham study published April 26, 2011, online in Cancer, the journal of the American Cancer Society.

Nausea and vomiting are most feared of all chemotherapy-related side effects
