Further strengthening its broad line of neurovascular products to treat unruptured brain aneurysms, Covidien plc announced the European launch of its Pipeline™ Flex embolization device at the annual Live Interventional Neuroradiology & Neurosurgery Course (LINNC), held in Paris June 23-25. This next-generation flow diversion device received CE Mark earlier this year.

XenoPort initiates XP23829 Phase 2 clinical trial in patients with psoriasis

XenoPort, Inc. announced today that it has initiated a Phase 2 clinical trial of XP23829, its proprietary investigational next-generation fumaric acid product candidate. The trial is a multi-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study designed to assess the efficacy and safety of XP23829 as a potential treatment of patients with moderate-to-severe chronic plaque-type psoriasis.

While more and more genomic information is becoming available at a drastically increasing pace, the knowledge we can gain about how microorganisms interact with their surrounding, infect hosts and alter their molecular programs in accordance to changing environmental conditions remains widely not deducible from genomic data alone, the researchers from University of Southern Denmark claim.

Scientists have attempted to replicate these properties, but, despite decades of research, even the most basic membrane structures, known as vesicles, still face many problems when made in the lab. They are difficult to make at consistent sizes and lack the stability of their biological counterparts.
