The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today approved Stivarga (regorafenib) to treat patients with colorectal cancer that has progressed after treatment and spread to other parts of the body (metastatic).

NYU Langone earns Silver status in New York City Department of Health's food initiative

NYU Langone Medical Center announced today it achieved Silver status in the New York City Department of Health's Healthy Hospital Food Initiative. The initiative aims to create a healthier food environment in New York City hospitals and offers employees, visitors and patients better access to healthy food by improving the nutritional content of food and beverage options available in cafeterias, vending machines and patient meals.

Hospitals respond to feds' warning about electronic records, billing fraud

Hospital industry groups responded Tuesday to the warning issued by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Attorney General Eric Holder, saying that the federal government shares part of the blame, because it hasn't provided hospitals adequate guidance on billing for common services.

SAMHSA announces ten teen court program grants

Ten Teen Court Program grants totaling up to $6 million over the next three years will provide substance abuse treatment services and related recovery support services to youth with substance abuse and/or co-occurring treatment needs involved in a teen court program. The funding is from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

New clinical trial to evaluate DEX-M74 against hereditary inclusion body myopathy

Researchers have launched a clinical trial to evaluate the drug candidate DEX-M74 as a treatment for a rare degenerative muscle disease, hereditary inclusion body myopathy (HIBM). National Institutes of Health scientists from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) and the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) will conduct the clinical trial at the NIH Clinical Center.
