HRG protein inhibits tumor growth and metastasis: Study

Most cancer tissues are invaded by inflammatory cells that either stimulate or inhibit the growth of the tumor, depending on what immune cells are involved. Now a Swedish-Belgian research team has shown that a protein that naturally occurs in the body, HRG, inhibits tumor growth and metastasis into secondary organs by activating specific immune cells.

Acceleron recieves $1.5 million MDA grant for ACE-031 clinical study in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

Acceleron Pharma, a biopharmaceutical company developing novel therapeutics that modulate the growth of cells and tissues including muscle, bone, fat, red blood cells and the vasculature, today announced it has been awarded a $1.5 million grant from the Muscular Dystrophy Association to support clinical studies of ACE-031 in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a disabling neuromuscular disease in which patients experience a progressive loss of muscle mass and strength.

These ICDs when unnecessary could put the patients at higher risk of death and serious complications than patients who meet the criteria for the life-saving device say authors of the study published in the Jan. 5 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.
