Rib-X commences Phase 2b trial to assess delafloxacin, linezolid, vancomycin for treatment of ABSSSI

Rib-X Pharmaceuticals, an antibiotics company with a broad development-stage pipeline, today announced the initiation of a Phase 2b clinical trial to evaluate delafloxacin, linezolid and vancomycin for the treatment of acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections, including infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

Anacor initiates dosing in AN2728 Phase 2b trial for psoriasis

Anacor Pharmaceuticals announced today that the first patient has been dosed in a Phase 2b trial of AN2728, a topical anti-inflammatory product candidate for the treatment of psoriasis. Fidaxomicin demonstrates 45% reduction in recurrences vs. existing treatment for C. difficile infection

Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) is a significant and growing problem in hospitals and other health care facilities, but no new drugs to treat the condition have been developed in several decades. However, a large-scale, phase 3 trial conducted by Canadian and U.S. researchers shows that the new antibiotic Fidaxomicin is superior to existing treatments, demonstrating a 45 percent reduction in recurrences vs. the existing licensed treatment.

Early, correct diagnosis is the best way to prevent the development of Lyme arthritis in individuals with the tick-borne illness, according to a paper published in the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. In patients who do develop the condition, most cases can be treated successfully with antibiotics, the review found.

When babies are given antibiotics, their risk of developing asthma by age 6 may increase by 50 percent. This relationship between antibiotic use in babies less than six months old and risk of developing asthma was documented in a study conducted by Norwegian University of Science and Technology researcher Kari Risnes.
