Oldelft Benelux acquires distributorship for EOS imaging system

biospace med (www.biospacemed.com), an emerging medical technology company based in Paris, and Oldelft Benelux, a renowned specialist in medical diagnostic imaging, announced today the signature of an exclusive distribution agreement of EOS, the world’s first ultra-low-dose 2D|3D imager. The agreement will cover the distribution of EOS for the Benelux area (Belgium, The Netherlands & Luxembourg).

Viatronix V3D-Colon software used for the President's colon cancer screening exam

Viatronix Incorporated, a Stony Brook, New York, based company announced that its V3D-Colon software is used at the National Naval Medical Center where the President's annual physical was done. "Our software is being utilized at several DOD facilities since the landmark Virtual Colonoscopy clinical trial published in the New England Journal of Medicine back in December 2003," said Zaffar Hayat, President of Viatronix Incorporated.

Rcadia Medical Imaging receives CE Mark for COR Analyzer System

Rcadia Medical Imaging today announced that it has received a CE Mark for the COR Analyzer® System, its proprietary software that helps identify patients with significant CAD (Coronary Artery Disease) by a fully automatic analysis of coronary CT angiography (cCTA) studies. The CE Mark allows the company to market the system in the European Union and other countries that accept the CE Mark registration. The COR Analyzer is marketed in the U.S. under 510(k) clearance and Rcadia was named 2009 Best New Radiology Vendor by AuntMinnie.com.

biospace med announced today that it has received 510(k) clearance from the FDA to market the Company’s sterEOS 2D/3D workstation for pediatric use in spine applications. The Company’s EOS ultra-low-dose imager previously has been FDA-cleared for use in pediatrics and adults, while sterEOS has previously been FDA-cleared for adult use in spine.

UC researchers find CT scan screening of non-smoking women is cost-effective

Researchers at the University of Cincinnati have found that it is cost-effective to do CT scan screening of non-smoking women, ages 25-54, who come to the emergency room for the first time with a collapsed lung in order to diagnose and treat those with lymphangioleiomyomatosis, or LAM.

Researchers at the University of Cincinnati have found that using high-resolution CT-scans to screen for lymphangioleiomyomatosis, or LAM, is cost-effective in non-smoking women between 25 and 54 who come to the emergency room for the first time with a collapsed lung.

Medicare coverage of CTC for seniors needed

President Obama, in his first routine physical exam as commander in chief, received a CT colonography (CTC), commonly known as a virtual colonoscopy, to screen him for colorectal cancer. However, Obama Administration officials at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) previously denied coverage of the same exam for seniors enrolled in Medicare, cutting off access for many to an exam proven to increase compliance with nationally accepted colon cancer screening guidelines.

Business Week reports on a study that finds 1 in 4 MRI and CT scans are inappropriately recommended by doctors. The study appears in the March issue of the Journal of the American College of Radiology. The researchers analyzed 459 scans at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
