First whole genome sequence of Parsi breast cancer woman

The incidence of breast cancer in most populations is strongly linked to a genetic basis but little is known about the variants at the present time.

Warburg Pincus affiliates to acquire ReSearch Pharmaceutical Services for $6.10 per share

ReSearch Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. (RPS) announced today it has entered into an agreement to sell the company to affiliates of Warburg Pincus, LLC, the global private equity firm, in an all cash transaction valued at $6.10 per share. The Board of Directors of RPS unanimously approved the acquisition agreement and recommended that RPS shareholders approve the transaction. It is presently anticipated that closing of the transaction will occur in February 2011.

Paternal diet affects lipid metabolizing genes in offspring

Scientists at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and the University of Texas at Austin have uncovered evidence that environmental influences experienced by a father can be passed down to the next generation, "reprogramming" how genes function in offspring. A new study published this week in Cell shows that environmental cues-in this case, diet-influence genes in mammals from one generation to the next, evidence that until now has been sparse.

Meda gains exclusive marketing and distribution rights for EpiPen Auto-Injector in Europe

Meda has signed a long-term license agreement with the specialty division of Mylan Inc., Dey Pharma, L.P., for exclusive marketing and distribution rights of EpiPen® (epinephrine) Auto-Injector in Europe. EpiPen is used for emergency treatment of severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis). Anaphylaxis can occur quickly (often within a couple of minutes) and may be life-threatening.

Medtronic, Inc. today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved its Arctic Front® Cardiac CryoAblation Catheter system, the first and only Cryoballoon in the United States indicated for the treatment of drug refractory paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF).
