Cardium announced that patients enrolled for MATRIX clinical trail have completed their evaluation period

Cardium Therapeutics (NYSE Amex: CXM) today announced that all patients enrolled in the Company's MATRIX clinical study have now completed their initial 12-week evaluation period and that it plans to provide detailed safety and efficacy data in late September 2009.

Patients enrolled in the TREAT Phase 3 study treated with Aranesp to a target hemoglobin of 13 g/dL

Amgen today announced that in a large, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, Phase 3 study of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) (not requiring dialysis), anemia and type-2 diabetes (the Trial to Reduce Cardiovascular Endpoints with Aranesp((R)) Therapy, or TREAT), treatment of anemia with Aranesp((R) )(darbepoetin alfa) to a hemoglobin target of 13 g/dL had no statistically significant effect on either of two primary endpoints compared with placebo treatment.

Defentect's radiation detection system to be installed at Washington Hospital Center

Defentect announced today Washington Hospital Center is deploying Defentect's radiation detection system hospital-wide following a pilot project to test its effectiveness, with an additional nine GT2(TM) radiation sensors and two GT4(TM) Gamma Radiation sensors, capable of isotopic identification.

Mid-career scientists receive the 2009 Julie Martin Mid-Career Awards in Aging Research

Charleen T. Chu, MD, PhD, associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh and David M. Sabatini, MD, PhD, associate professor, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, received the 2009 Julie Martin Mid-Career Awards in Aging Research. Sponsored by The Ellison Medical Foundation, the grants provide funding of $550,000 to mid-career scientists whose research has great potential in advancing understanding of basic aging and its impact on age-related diseases.

New drug delivery system for delivering nanoparticles into the tissue

Scientists at UC Santa Barbara have discovered a potential new drug delivery system. The finding is a biological mechanism for delivery of nanoparticles into tissue. The results are published in this week's Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Scientists have discovered a way of allowing healthy cells to take charge of cancerous cells and stop them developing into tumours in what could provide a new approach to treating early-stage cancers.

Gloucester Pharmaceuticals raises funds for the development of romidepsin

MicroRNAs in saliva could aid in the detection of oral cancer

Researchers continue to add to the diagnostic alphabet of saliva by identifying the presence of at least 50 microRNAs that could aid in the detection of oral cancer, according to a report in Clinical Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.

MicroRNAs present in saliva could be used to detect oral squamous cell carcinoma

A new study published by researchers at the UCLA School of Dentistry substantiates the effectiveness of measuring the microRNAs present in saliva to detect oral squamous cell carcinoma. Like hall monitors in an elementary school, microRNAs are the molecules produced by cells that simultaneously asses the behavior of multiple genes and control their activity.

Accumulating evidence suggests that connective tissue growth factor (CCN2) plays a central role in fibrotic conditions in many organ systems.
