A new study indicates that cancer may have negative impacts on both the physical and mental health of individuals as they age. Published early online in CANCER, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society, the study suggests that cancer increases the risk for certain health issues above and beyond normal aging. International panel reclassifies a type of thyroid tumor to reduce cancer overdiagnosis

Study links cancer survivorship to marriage, birthplace, race and ethnicity

Previous studies have shown that married patients with cancer fare better than unmarried cancer patients, surviving more often and longer. In a new study, published April 11 in the journal Cancer, researchers at University of California, San Diego School of Medicine report that the benefits of being married vary by race and ethnicity, with male non-Hispanic white bachelors experiencing the worst outcome. This group had a 24 percent higher mortality rate than their married counterparts.

The Weizmann Institute of Science purchases novel Aeon™ 1GHz NMR system from Bruker

The Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel today announced major scientific instrument purchases from Bruker (NASDAQ: BRKR), including a novel Aeon™ 1GHz nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) system for expanding frontiers in structural biology and intrinsically disordered protein (IDPs) research. Furthermore, the Weizmann Institute is adding an Aeon 600 MHz NMR, a 263 GHz dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP)-NMR system, and a Biospec® 15 Tesla system for preclinical ultra-high field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Various NMR and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) instrument upgrades round out this major acquisition, instantly propelling the Weizmann Institute to the frontiers of modern magnetic resonance research infrastructure.
