Study questions frequency of heart angiograms

A recent study raises questions about the frequency of doctors' use of elective heart angiograms, which showed no disease in almost 40 percent of patients. BusinessWeek reports: "Doctors may be sending patients too quickly for elective angiograms to detect heart disease, exposing them to radiation and driving up U.S. health-care costs, a study suggests.

Phase III study demonstrates superiority of imiquimod cream 2.5% and 3.75% in treatment of AK

The Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (JAAD) has published Phase III data evaluating the safety and efficacy of imiquimod cream at two doses - 2.5% and 3.75% - administered daily on a 2-week treatment cycle. The study demonstrates that both formulations were superior to placebo, and that imiquimod 3.75% on a daily 2-week treatment cycle is superior to imiquimod 2.5% in treating actinic keratosis (AK) on a large surface area - the face or balding scalp.

According to projections from the United States Census Bureau, people with skin of color will comprise approximately half of the U.S. population by 2050. The observed improvements in bone mineral density, strength and postural balance due to recreational soccer are of particularly interest for a large group of women but also for elderly men, says project leader Associate Professor Peter Krustrup, University of Copenhagen, and continues "It is well known that the risk of falls and fractures increases with age as a result of weaker bones, poorer balance and attenuated ability to trigger rapid muscle force, but the present results suggest that soccer - and possibly other ball games - is an effective training method to reduce bone weakening that comes with increasing age".
