FDA approves first-ever type 1 diabetes delaying drug Tzield (teplizumab-mzwv)

On November 17, 2022, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a pathbreaking new drug called Tzield. This injectable formulation contains a combination of two drugs that could push back the onset of type 1 diabetes (T1D) in adults at stage 3 and children aged eight years or more at stage 2.

Researchers from Kessler Foundation and Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation (collectively "Kessler") are enrolling participants in a national trial of a breakthrough device for improving recovery after stroke. Kessler locations in West Orange and Saddle Brook, NJ, are among the 20 sites across the U.S. participating in the EMAGINE Stroke Recovery Trial, which pairs therapeutic exercise with stimulation of the brain through an investigational wearable device.

Experts investigate the role of IL-26 in COVID-19

Researchers at Karolinska Institutet in Sweden have shown that patients with acute COVID-19 infection have increased levels of the cytokine IL-26 in their blood. Moreover, high IL-26 levels correlate with an exaggerated inflammatory response that signifies severe cases of the disease. The findings, which are presented in Frontiers in Immunology, indicate that IL-26 is a potential biomarker for severe COVID-19.

A comprehensive review of research into the delivery method of estrogen treatment (e.g., oral, intramuscular injection, transdermal patch, etc.) and cardiovascular risk in transgender women and gender-diverse people found that treatment route may affect heart health, but there is not enough available data for metanalysis.
