Chelsea presents Northera study data at International Congress on Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders

Chelsea Therapeutics International, Ltd. announced that data from its pivotal studies of Northera™ (droxidopa) in symptomatic neurogenic orthostatic hypotension was presented during a poster session and featured in a symposium highlighting the role of norepinephrine (NE) deficiency in Parkinson's disease at the 14th International Congress on Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Kennedy Krieger Institute orders for Bruker's ultra-high field MRI CryoProbe

Bruker has received an order for the first ultra-high field MRI CryoProbe in North America to be installed at the F.M. Kirby Research Center for Functional Brain Imaging at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, MD. Supported by an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) award to Dr. Peter van Zijl, Director of the Center, the 500 MHz MRI CryoProbe is part of an ultra-high field preclinical MRI BioSpec® system that includes an 11.7 T UltraShield Refrigerated (USR™) magnet and AVANCE™ III electronics.

Scientific American publishes article on "rebirth" of DNA vaccines

Inovio Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a leader in the development of therapeutic and preventive vaccines against cancers and infectious diseases, announced today that Scientific American magazine has published in its July issue an article entitled "DNA Drugs Come of Age." Excess neuronal protein plays role in the evolution of neurodegenerative diseases: Research

In diverse neurodegenerative diseases ranging from Parkinson's to Alzheimer's, researchers have long noted accumulations of a little-understood neuronal protein called α-synuclein. Pathological and genetic evidence strongly suggested that excessive α-synuclein played a role in the evolution of these diseases, but it was unclear how too much α-synuclein culminated in synaptic damage and neurodegeneration.

The University of California, San Diego, The Salk Institute for Biological Studies and Life Technologies Corporation today announced the initiation of studies which may lead to the future development of cell transplant therapy for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Currently, there is only one FDA-approved pharmaceutical addressing this lethal disease, which affects approximately 30,000 people in the United States.

HHS Secretary announces series of new investments to strengthen primary care workforce
