New skincare product with cellular activators

Scientists in Iceland have developed a revolutionary skincare product after more than a decade of extensive research in plant biotechnology. The skin-rejuvenating phenomenon is called BIOEFFECT(TM) EGF Serum. Made by Sif Cosmetics, it is the world's first skincare product to contain cellular activators made in plants. Six months after its launch in Iceland, the serum is already being used by over 20% of Icelandic women.

MVI, Merck and NYU collaborate to research potential malaria vaccine

Development of a vaccine to prevent the malaria parasite from entering the human liver is the goal of a new collaboration announced today by global leaders in malaria research and vaccine development. The PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative (MVI), Merck (known outside the US and Canada as MSD), and NYU Langone Medical Center are working together to evaluate an approach targeting a novel part of a major surface protein on the malaria parasite. Malaria is estimated to kill close to 900,000 people each year with the majority of deaths occurring in children under the age of five in sub-Saharan Africa.

DARPA awards Pulmatrix $5.7 million grant to advance iCALM therapies

Haitian health ministry says more than 2,000 have died from cholera; Report identifies outbreak's source, some dispute findings

More than 2,000 people have died of cholera in Haiti since late October, Haitian officials said on Monday, the Associated Press/Washington Post reports (12/6). According to Haitian health ministry figures, a total of "2,013 people have died from the water-borne bacterial infection and 88,789 cases have been recorded," Agence France-Presse writes (12/6).
