EntreMed announces publication of ENMD-2076 Phase 1 results against solid tumors in AACR journal

EntreMed, Inc., today announced the publication of key papers on the clinical and preclinical development of ENMD-2076, an Aurora A/angiogenic kinase inhibitor. The clinical data were published in the December 3, 2010 on-line issue of the American Association for Cancer Research journal, Clinical Cancer Research, and are expected to appear soon in the print version of the publication.

Scientists discovered a new way breast cancer cells dodge the immune system and promote tumor growth, providing a fresh treatment target in the fight against the disease. While comparable mechanisms to avoid the immune system have been identified in mice with breast and other cancers, the study tested human breast tumor cells, putting researchers closer to understanding how the disease progresses in real patients.

DMP1 protein prevents endothelial cells to respond to VEGF

A team from the Metastasis Research Laboratory (GIGA-Cancer/Liège University Hospital) has just published, in the prestigious journal BLOOD, their work demonstrating that the DMP1 protein has previously unsuspected anti-angiogenic activities which could be used for the development of new treatments against cancer, but also against diseases in which angiogenesis plays a major role, such as psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis or diabetic retinopathy.

The most common connective tissue cell in animals is the fibroblast, which plays an important role in healing wounds. But Dr. Neta Erez of Tel Aviv University's Sackler Faculty of Medicine has now demonstrated that fibroblasts can also do a body great harm, helping to "recruit" immune cells for tumor growth.

ArQule's ARQ 197 Phase 1 clinical trial results in colorectal cancer presented at ASCO 2011

ArQule, Inc. today announced the presentation of Phase 1 results of a clinical trial among patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC) treated with ARQ 197, a selective small molecule inhibitor of the c-MET receptor tyrosine kinase, in combination with irinotecan and cetuximab. FDA grants Exelixis XL184 orphan drug designation for treatment of medullary thyroid cancer

Exelixis, Inc. today announced that the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has granted orphan drug designation to XL184 for treatment of follicular, medullary, and anaplastic thyroid carcinoma, and metastatic or locally advanced papillary thyroid cancer. A pivotal phase 3 trial of XL184 is ongoing in patients with medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) and the company expects to release top-line phase 3 results in the first-half of 2011 and potentially file a New Drug Application (NDA) for the compound in the second-half of 2011.
