MEDNAX, Inc., today announced the acquisition of Holston Anesthesia Associates, P.C., a physician group practice based in Kingsport, Tenn. The practice will become part of MEDNAX's American Anesthesiology division and is the third Tennessee-based anesthesiology practice to join this division.

An animal study in the August issue of Anesthesiology suggests that higher-frequency electric current stimulation of the spinal cord reduced pain quicker and better reached nerves not affected by traditionally used frequencies. A higher frequency and intensity controlled pain faster and more effectively, the study found.

Until now, there has been no research dedicated to the importance of Vitamin D supplementation in children with congenital heart disease (CHD). However, over the past few years, researchers at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) Research Institute and Cardiovascular Surgery Program teamed with the Canadian Critical Care Trials Group to understand the impact of cardiac surgery on the Vitamin D status of infants and children, to be printed next month in Anesthesiology.
