Allos reaches SPA agreement with FDA for FOLOTYN Phase 3 trial in PTCL

Infinity commences IPI-926 Phase 2 clinical trial in rare, life-threatening bone cancer

Infinity Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced the initiation of a randomized, double-blind Phase 2 clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of IPI-926 compared to placebo in patients with metastatic or locally advanced, inoperable chondrosarcoma. The trial is expected to enroll over 100 patients worldwide.

International consortium of researchers genetically characterise Spanish Fanconi anaemia patients

A consortium of thirty-two researchers worldwide, led by Dr Jordi Surrallés, professor of the Department of Genetics and Microbiology at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and member of the Centre for Biomedical Network Research on Rare Diseases (CIBERER), genetically and clinically characterised almost all Spanish patients suffering from Franconi anaemia, a rare disease affecting one in every 500,000 persons and which is characterised by severe anaemia in children, congenital malformations and a high predisposition to cancer.

Mathematical model predicts lifespan of stem cells

When patients receive a bone marrow transplant, they are getting a new population of hematopoietic stem cells. Fresh stem cells are needed when a patient is low on red blood cells, as in anemia, or white blood cells, which can be caused by cancer or even cancer treatments such as irradiation or chemotherapy. The problem is that a bone marrow transplant might not succeed because the transplanted stem cells don't live long enough or because they proliferate too well, leading to leukemia.

Bone marrow stem cell transplantation feasible, safe treatment for children with severe traumatic brain injury

Exactech fourth quarter total revenue increases 7% to $51.8 million

Exactech, Inc., a developer and producer of bone and joint restoration products for hip, knee, extremities, spine and biologic materials, announced today that revenue for 2010 increased 7% to $190.5 million from $177.3 million in 2009. Diluted earnings per share for the year was $0.80 based on net income of $10.5 million.
