Positive results from Merck's Phase IIB clinical study of odanacatib for treating osteoporosis

New data from a Phase IIB clinical study of odanacatib, Merck & Co., Inc.'s oral, once-weekly investigational treatment for osteoporosis, showed that when stopping treatment after two years, the increases in lower back (lumbar spine) bone mineral density (BMD) were reversed over the next year, while BMD at the hip (femoral neck) remained above levels observed at the start of the study.

UCLA receives funds for oral cancer research training

The UCLA School of Dentistry consistently ranks among the country's top dental schools in National Institutes of Health funding. During the past three fiscal years, the school has secured nearly $30 million in grants for oral cancer research and research training. Now, the dental school has received a major infusion of construction funding for the creation of the UCLA Yip Center for Oral/Head & Neck Oncology Research.

BioAlliance announces Phase III results of miconazole Lauriad MBT for treatment of oropharyngeal candidiasis

Strativa Pharmaceuticals, the proprietary products division of Par Pharmaceutical Companies, Inc. (NYSE: PRX), today announced that its development partner BioAlliance Pharma SA presented Phase III study results for miconazole Lauriad(R) mucoadhesive buccal tablets (MBT) that demonstrate noninferiority to clotrimazole troches for oropharyngeal candidiasis (OPC), an opportunistic infection of the mouth and throat.

ARIAD to complete its Phase 3 SUCCEED trial following DMS recommendation

ARIAD Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARIA) today announced that the independent Data Monitoring Committee (DMC) of the Phase 3 SUCCEED trial has completed the first interim efficacy analysis as specified by the study protocol and has recommended that the randomized, placebo-controlled trial of oral ridaforolimus in patients with metastatic sarcomas continue to full patient enrollment and completion.
