Efficacy and safety data on linagliptin and investigational compound empagliflozin* in various diabetes subpopulations presented by Boehringer Ingelheim and Eli Lilly and Company

Boehringer Ingelheim and Eli Lilly and Company today announced they will feature five oral and 12 poster presentations for linagliptin and the investigational compound empagliflozin* at the 49th Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) which will take place in Barcelona, from 23 – 27 September. The presentations will add to the already existing body of data on safety and efficacy of these two compounds.

SignaBlok's novel peptide inhibitor of TREM-1 suppresses cancer progression

SignaBlok, Inc., a Massachusetts-based biopharmaceutical company, today announced the successful in vivo proof of concept data that demonstrate that the company's novel mechanism-based, first-in-class peptide inhibitor of TREM-1 effectively suppresses cancer progression in mouse models of lung cancer and dramatically improves survival in septic mice.

Immune marker predicts transplant success, improves selection of bone marrow donors

The risk of death following bone marrow transplantation can be reduced about 60 percent using a new technique to identify bone marrow donors who make the most potent cancer-fighting immune cells, according to research from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The findings appear in the September 16 online issue of the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

NIEHS grant renewal opens next chapter in 18-year research effort into brain injury biomarker

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) has awarded a five-year, $1.5 million grant extension to Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health to fund research into the function of a biomarker for brain injury called Translocator Protein 18 kDa, better known as TSPO, in order to better understand its function in brain injury and inflammation and discover targets for therapy.
