New article examines education practices, priorities for deaf-blind children

Deaf-blind children can be isolated and disconnected from people and activities. Without individualized support, they cannot access visual and auditory information and often complete school unable to seek future education, employment, or independent living. Providing appropriate special education and related services for deaf-blind children poses unique challenges.

NYBC calls for blood donation in remembrance of 9/11 victims

New York Blood Center (NYBC), serving more than 20 million people in New York City, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, New Jersey, and parts of Connecticut and Pennsylvania, calls upon the communities it serves to please donate blood in honor and remembrance of the thousands of men, women, and children affected by the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Each pint of blood donated can potentially save the lives of three people through the use of blood and blood products.

HEALTHeCAREERS grants $15,000 scholarship to radiologic science graduates

HEALTHeCAREERS Network helps fund these scholarships that are administered by the charitable arm of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT). The association's $15,000 scholarship total is divided into $1,500 awards that are given to undergraduate or graduate students completing a degree in radiologic sciences.

The GE Foundation - the philanthropic organization of GE - announced today a $2 million grant to Louisiana Public Health Institute (LPHI), as part of GE's Developing Health program. This grant will underwrite a program led by School Health Connection (SHC) in Orleans Parish, LA, to provide students with increased access to healthcare through school-based health centers.

University of Melbourne and Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute adopt BioEYES outreach program

Baltimore, MD-The innovative, educational, outreach program BioEYES has now been adopted by the University of Melbourne and the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute. The down-under partnership program debuts this August. BioEYES is designed to foster an interest in and a love for science in elementary, middle, and high school students. Over the course of one week, students watch the transparent zebrafish, Danio rerio, grow from a single-celled zygote to a larval fish complete with a beating heart.
