Providing direct access to imaging test results may improve patient satisfaction, but increase anxiety as well

Providing patients with direct access to their imaging test results could improve patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes. However, physicians are concerned that it could lead to increased patient anxiety and unrealistic demands on physician time, according to a study in the April issue of the Journal of the American College of Radiology (www.jacr.org).

Fully integrated medical curriculum proves beneficial for minority students

Of all the licensing exams along the way to becoming an M.D., the Step 1 is notorious for having the worst national passage rate. By adopting a fully integrated medical curriculum in lieu of the traditional academic model, the University of Texas Medical Branch has seen a dramatic drop over the course of a decade in the failure rate, with underrepresented minority students benefiting the most, according to new research that will be presented April 30, 2010 at the annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association.

States mull joining health care reform lawsuits or keeping out of it

The Associated Press/New York Times: Indiana has joined the lawsuit brought by 13 states challenging the constitutionality of a mandate on Americans to carry health insurance in the new health reform law. "State Attorney General Greg Zoeller said Monday that Indiana would be added to an amended version of the lawsuit against the law that is expected to be filed soon" (3/29).

Centre Philou inaugurates new facilities to welcome 6-12 year-old disabled children

The Centre Philou is inaugurating its new facilities to welcome new clients: 6-12 year-old severely physically disabled children for stays of two days to three weeks at a time. The Centre has already been welcoming 0-5 year-olds for almost five years.

Research explores association between BP and psychopathological symptoms

A paper published in the current issue of Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics addresses the relationship of body piercing with psychopathology. The term 'body piercing' refers to the 'insertion of jewellery and other objects into artificially made openings in body parts', while body modifications encompass BP and tattoos. Recent research has explored the association between BP and psychopathological symptoms with unclear results.
