Employers offering wellness and preventive health programs can sometimes run afoul of a new anti-discrimination law restricting their ability to ask workers about family medical histories, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Adventist Medical Center augments surgical practice with newest model of the da Vinci surgical robot

Adventist Medical Center is now home to the newest model of the da Vinci surgical robot. The da Vinci robot enables complex surgeries to be completed using a minimally invasive approach. The approach minimizes the physical and emotional impact of surgery on patients resulting in increased quality outcomes. The Portland, Ore., based hospital is one of few hospitals in the Northwest to use the latest model of the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System.

Epigenetics may help determine CT radiation risk to patients' offsprings

There remains a lack of consensus amongst the medical and scientific communities about any cancer risk from low level radiation, particularly low-dose radiation delivered from computed tomography (CT) scans. However, the study of epigenetics may play a role in determining whether or not future trends of diseases can in fact be linked to utilization of CT, according to an article in the February issue of the Journal of the American College of Radiology (JACR).

Researchers to assess any cancer risk associated with low-dose radiation exposure from medical imaging tests

Researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center are incorporating radiation dose exposure reports into the electronic medical record, an effort that they hope will lead to an accurate assessment of whether any cancer risk is associated with low-dose radiation exposure from medical imaging tests, according to an article in the February issue of the Journal of the American College of Radiology (JACR).

Mainz University Medical Center and Nagasaki University announce joint research into radiation epidemiology and biology

The University Medical Center of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and Nagasaki University in Japan plan to cooperate more closely in the future. At the focus of the partnership funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) will be the joint development of a program of research into radiation epidemiology and radiation biology, the establishment of an exchange program for scientists and academics at the two universities, and, over the long term, the creation of a joint multicenter research project.

Texas colleges readying students to build, maintain electronic medical records

Three central Texas colleges are applying for a federal grant to train students in the use of electronic medical records, The Texas Tribune reports. "Texas State University in San Marcos and the University of Texas at Austin are partnering with the University of Texas School of Health Information in Houston to apply for a new federal grant in health information that could bring in $6 million across the three campuses.
