Thalidomide is a drug that is used to treat multiple myeloma in patients who have just been diagnosed, and a painful skin disease related to leprosy. It is also being studied in the treatment of other types of cancer. Thalidomide belongs to the family of drugs called angiogenesis inhibitors. Also called Thalomid.

Japan's MHLW grants full marketing authorization to REVLIMID

Celgene International Sàrl announced that REVLIMID (lenalidomide) has been granted full marketing authorization by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare for use in combination with dexamethasone as a treatment for patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma who have received at least one prior standard therapy. This marketing authorization represents the first regulatory approval of REVLIMID in Japan.

Phase III study of REVLIMID for treating patients with multiple myeloma shows improvement in PFS

Celgene International Sàrl announced that data from the planned second interim analysis (median follow-up of 21 months) of a phase III, randomized, double-blind study of continuous REVLIMID (lenalidomide) for the treatment of elderly patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma show improvement in progression-free survival, the primary endpoint of the study.

Clinical data from investigational study of patients with multiple myeloma presented at ASCO

Celgene International Sàrl announced clinical data from an investigational study of patients with multiple myeloma who were younger than 65 years old and received either lenalidomide (REVLIMID), melphalan and prednisone or melphalan plus autologous stem cell transplant (MEL200) following an induction treatment of lenalidomide plus low-dose dexamethasone (Rd) were presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting.

Millennium: The Takeda Oncology Company today reported on data from oral presentations of VELCADE® (bortezomib) for Injection based therapy in multiple myeloma presented at the 2010 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). These data highlight VELCADE based therapy in both transplant and non-transplant eligible previously untreated multiple myeloma patients, as well as VELCADE used as induction and/or maintenance therapy.

US District Court dismisses all claims and counterclaims in thalidomide patent cases

Celgene Corporation announced that as a result of Barr Laboratories, Inc., withdrawing its Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) for thalidomide with the US Food and Drug Administration, the US District Court for the District of New Jersey has granted the requested dismissal of all claims and counterclaims in the thalidomide patent cases.

Celgene's first-quarter non-GAAP total revenue up 31% to $789 million

Celgene Corporation announced non-GAAP net income of $294.6 million, or non-GAAP diluted earnings per share of $0.63 for the quarter ended March 31, 2010. Non-GAAP net income for the first quarter of 2009 was $205.1 million or non-GAAP diluted earnings per share of $0.44. Based on U.S. GAAP, Celgene reported net income of $234.4 million, or diluted earnings per share of $0.50 for the quarter ended March 31, 2010. GAAP net income for the first quarter of 2009 was $162.9 million, or diluted earnings per share of $0.35.

Two years after the Food and Drug Administration Amendments Act of 2007 gave FDA new powers to require Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies for higher risk drugs and biologics, a new report concludes that an optimal future for REMS is possible if the agency adopts a systems approach when designing REMS programs and takes advantage of new technologies -- from electronic medical records to genetic testing -- that are changing the way medicine is practiced.

Celgene reports total revenue of $758M for fourth-quarter of 2009

Celgene Corporation announced non-GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) net income of $290.3 million, or non-GAAP diluted earnings per share of $0.62 for the quarter ended December 31, 2009. Non-GAAP net income for the fourth quarter of 2008 was $200.9 million or non-GAAP diluted earnings per share of $0.43. Based on U.S. GAAP, Celgene reported net income of $254.2 million, or diluted earnings per share of $0.54 for the quarter ended December 31, 2009. GAAP net loss for the fourth quarter of 2008 was $149.3 million, or diluted loss per share of $0.33.

Clinical trial results of VELCADE based combinations for MM to be presented at the ASH meeting

Millennium: The Takeda Oncology Company today reported the presentation of results from a double randomized Phase III clinical trial of VELCADE based combinations for the treatment of patients with previously untreated multiple myeloma (MM). The VELCADE based combinations evaluated in the study demonstrated two-year overall survival rates ranging between 81 and 88 percent.

Study data of REVLIMID-dexamethasone combination therapy for high-risk smoldering multiple myeloma

Celgene International Sàrl announced that data evaluating combination therapy REVLIMID (lenalidomide) and dexamethasone in patients with high-risk smoldering multiple myeloma were presented during the American Society of Hematology’s annual meeting in New Orleans, LA. The landmark study demonstrated REVLIMID and dexamethasone prolonged time to progression, including complete responses, with manageable toxicity.
