PSI develops new breast cancer diagnostic method

The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) has developed a new breast cancer diagnostic method, and is now carrying out first tests on non-preserved human tissue in conjunction with the Kantonsspital Baden AG. This new method should be able to reveal structures that cannot be seen using conventional mammography. Standard procedures only determine the extent to which X-rays are attenuated by various tissue structures.

Racal differences in breast cancer survival: Study

Black women are more likely to die from breast cancer than white women with obesity considered a significant factor. But a new study shows that that the cause of the difference does not lie in obesity alone. As a group, black women in the U.S. tend to be heavier than whites and researchers had thought that might explain why only 78 percent survive five years after diagnosis, compared to 90 percent of white women.

Affymetrix commences shipment of gene profiling reagents

Affymetrix, Inc. today began shipping its FDA-cleared Gene Profiling Reagents. The situation is cause for strong emotions, but with customized information it can be changed to an ability to master the situation. Federal Ministry of Health supports radionuclide production at Research Neutron Source

The German Federal Ministry of Health has awarded more than one million euros in research and development funding for the efficient production of an important cancer diagnostic agent at the research neutron source FRM II. In a 2009 feasibility study, the Technische Universitaet Muenchen demonstrated that due to the high neutron flux the neutron source in Garching can produce about half of the European demand of the radioisotope molybdenum-99.
