Drug eluting stents should be used with caution in acute myocardial infarction

Drug-eluting stents are extremely effective devices to prevent restenosis following angioplasty. Yet, since last year, there is some debate and persistent uncertainty regarding the long term safety of these devices. Specifically, there is concern that some of these stents may occlude abruptly more than 1 year after placement, due to "late stent thrombosis".

Diets double the odds a teenage girl will begin smoking

Starting to diet seems to double the odds a teenage girl will begin smoking, a University of Florida study has found. UF researchers, who analyzed the dieting and smoking practices of 8,000 adolescents, did not find the same link in boys, who were also less likely than girls to diet, according to findings released Friday in the American Journal of Health Promotion.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) today announced that it is has named Homayoon Khanlou, M.D. as its Chief of Medicine, U.S. Prior to assuming his new role as Chief, Dr. Khanlou served as AHF's Associate Director of Medicine, Regional Medical Director of Western Region while also holding the posts of AHF's Associate Director of Research and the Medical Director and attending physician for the San Fernando Valley and Antelope Valley Healthcare Centers. Dr. Khanlou has also served as Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee at AHF.
