Nano-formulated indomethacin at lower dose effective in treating pain

A novel, lower-dose formulation of indomethacin, a widely used pain reliever, is absorbed faster by the body than a standard formulation and maintains comparable maximum concentrations in the blood despite being administered at a lower dose, according to a study to be reported here tomorrow at the annual meeting of the American Headache Society.

Maryland researchers deny link between cell phone radiation and brain cancer

University of Maryland researchers in the A. James Clark School of Engineering have expressed concerns regarding the validity of recent findings announced in the Journal of the American Medical Association and a World Health Organization panel suggesting that radiation from cell phones may be carcinogenic.

The Incubation Factory, UMDNJ and NJIT partner to commercialize personal tonometer for glaucoma

NJIT and UMDNJ have executed a license agreement with The Incubation Factory, St. Louis, MO, covering their personal tonometer technology on which a patent is pending. The tonometer was developed by a research team led by NJIT Professor Gordon Thomas, PhD, and Robert Fechtner, MD, director of the glaucoma division at UMDNJ.

Nano Bridging Molecules SA, A Swiss med-tech company announced that it has received CE Mark (Conformité Européenne) approval to begin marketing its SurfLink® Dental product. With its bio mimicking properties, SurfLink® Dental has been shown to allow for natural and permanent integration of dental implants for the first time. Bone seems to perceive the SurfLink® Dental product as ‘body-like’ and integrates the implant with a natural healing process, resulting in a quicker healing and a more stable integration, than without this product.

Imec, VIB and KU Leuven join forces in pioneering brain research at NERF and in the Human Brain Project

Today, Flanders' ambitious brain research that may lead to better diagnosis and treatment of brain disease, new prosthesis technologies for patients with a disability, a new generation of more intelligent robots, etc. switches into higher gear. In the presence of Ingrid Lieten, Flemish Minister of Innovation, Public Procurement, the Media and Combatting Poverty, imec, VIB and K.U.Leuven officially inaugurated the NERF (Neuro-Electronics Research Flanders) labs on the Imec campus in Leuven. The Human Brain Project was also launched on this occasion, one of the projects on the shortlist of the prestigious European Flagship Programme. Through NERF and the participation of Flanders' research institutes in the Human Brain Project, Flanders shows that it is putting progressive brain research high on its research agenda.
