Data on Ensituximab for treatment of pancreatic and colorectal cancers to be presented at ASCO 2011

Neogenix Oncology announced today that Dr. Luis Diaz of The Johns Hopkins University Hospital will present data from Ensituximab, the company's novel, therapeutic antibody to treat pancreatic and colorectal cancers. The presentation is scheduled at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2011 Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium to be held January 20-22, 2011 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA, USA.

Researchers create biyouyanagin compound library

Using chemical compounds found in a Japanese plant as a lead and the clever application of ultraviolet light, a Scripps Research Institute team has created a unique library of dozens of synthetic compounds to test for biomedical potential. Already, one of the compounds has shown great promise in inhibiting replication of HIV particles and fighting inflammation.

Merck Serono, a division of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, today highlighted a further analysis of the large randomized Phase II OPUS study demonstrating an association between early tumor shrinkage and long-term median overall survival (OS) of more than 2 years for patients with KRAS wild-type metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) treated with Erbitux® (cetuximab) plus FOLFOX standard chemotherapy.

New data on role of miR-34 tumor suppressor in preventing cancer stem cell development

Mirna Therapeutics, Inc., a leading developer of microRNA (miRNA)-based therapeutics, announced today the publication of new data in the journal Nature Medicine describing the role of the tumor suppressor miRNA, miR-34, in preventing cancer stem cell development. NCI sponsors fourth REOLYSIN clinical trial in pancreatic cancer

Journal of the National Cancer Institute: Projections Of The Cost Of Cancer Care In The United States: 2010-2020 - "By combining cancer prevalence with average annual costs of cancer care by phase of care and tumor site for 13 cancers in men and 16 cancers in women" and "all cancer sites combined," the authors project there will be just over 18 million cancer survivors in 2020 compared to 13.8 million survivors in 2010.

The American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA) has announced that Ryan Salinas, now a 2nd-year medical student at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), is the 2010 Lucien Rubenstein Award recipient. The work of Salinas, one of 10 ABTA Medical Student Summer Fellows in 2010, was deemed "outstanding" by the organization's distinguished Scientific Advisory Council.
