The Sonora Medical Systems business will be combined with the businesses of Barrington Medical Imaging and Echoserve, which were acquired by Medical Imaging Holdings, Inc. on September 18, 2009.

$16 million federal stimulus funds for cancer research projects

Sonora Medical Systems sold to Medical Imaging Holdings for $8 million

Misonix, Inc., a developer of minimally invasive ultrasonic medical device technology, which in Europe is used for the ablation of tumors and worldwide for other acute health conditions, announced today that substantially all of the assets of its subsidiary, Acoustic Marketing Research, Inc., DBA Sonora Medical Systems, were sold to Medical Imaging Holdings, Inc., for $8 million in cash.

New molecular imaging technique raises hope for common malignant female tumor

A promising new molecular imaging technique may provide physicians and patients with a noninvasive way to learn more information about a type of cancer of the uterus lining called "endometrial carcinoma"-one of the most common malignant female tumors. This research was presented in a study published in the October issue of The Journal of Nuclear Medicine.

SNM calls on Congress to support the CARE Bill

SNM is calling on Congress to support the Consistency, Accuracy, Responsibility and Excellence in Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Act (CARE bill), which would ensure that states set minimum education and credentialing standards for nuclear medicine technologists. Some imaging centers, drug makers may be driving up costs

The Dallas Morning News reports on the lure of the medical imaging business, which is many say is a "growth industry," including the idea that a "second- or third-hand MRI machine" can be purchased by a physician practice or free-standing imaging center for a few hundred thousand dollars but yield millions in new revenue. A report by America's Health Insurance Plans says as many as half the scans are unnecessary, and a McKinsey Global Institute study found the extra machines produce around $26.4 billion in additional costs each year. In addition, they expose patients to avoidable radiation (McNeill, 9/22).

Philips and Bruker sign MOU to develop new imaging technology
