Plasmat Futura Apheresis System from B. Braun

Apheresis machine for extracorporeal elimination of LDL cholesterol in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia, hyperlipoproteinemia (a), hyperfibrinogenemia, transplant vasculopathy.

The Plasmat Futura is a device to perform H.E.L.P. apheresis (heparin-induced extracorporeal LDL precipitation). In this extracorporeal blood purification procedure plasma is initially separated from the blood cells. Adding acetate buffer for acidification and heparin to the plasma LDL (low density lipoprotein)-cholesterol, fibrinogen and lipoprotein(a) is precipitated. The precipitate is removed by filtration and the excess of heparin by specific adssorption from the plasma.

In final bicarbonate dialysis the initial volume and the physiologic pH value of the processed plasma is reconstituted.

Range of Application

The H.E.L.P. apheresis (heparin-induced extracorporeal LDL precipitation) is suited for the treatment of severe lipometabolic disorders and rheologically induced diseases with special emphasis on sudden hearing loss.
