Gas-related symptoms linked to depression, anxiety, stress and poorer quality of life

Gas-related symptoms are associated with poorer quality of life, and higher stress, anxiety, and depression, with breaking wind being the most frequently reported gas issue, affecting eight out of 10 adults in the general population (81.3 %) in a 24-hour period, according to a new survey1 being presented today at UEG Week Virtual 2021.

Using a new public antibody to understand SARS-CoV-2 neutralization

SARS-CoV-2 infects host cells by binding to the angiotensin convertase 2 receptor (ACE2) on the cell surface through its trimeric spike (S) protein. SARS-CoV enters host human cells through endosomes, while SARS-CoV-2 enters through the cell surface and endosomes. The present study published in the journal “Cell Reports” aimed to understand the mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 antibody neutralization to facilitate the development of therapeutic interventions for COVID-19.

Machine learning predicts hospital-onset COVID-19 infections using patient contact networks

Researchers from the UK recently developed a real-time machine learning framework that uses dynamic patient contact networks to predict hospital-onset COVID-19 infections (HOCIs) at the patient level.
