The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index was a tie (63.3) for all-time overall well-being in April, revealing a continued recovery of American well-being despite continuing challenges and high unemployment. The only other time in 28 months of measurement the WBI reached 67 was in August 2009.

Study reveals increase in treatment admissions for drug abuse

From 1998 to 2008 there were marked changes in some patterns of substance use treatment admissions according to a study by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Although the concurrent abuse of both alcohol and drugs has remained widespread, the proportion of treatment admissions for the co-abuse of these substances has declined gradually yet significantly during this period - from 44 percent to 38 percent.

25% of adults quit their overactive bladder medication: Study

Study of 5,392 adults found that a quarter had quit their overactive bladder medication, with nine out of ten saying it didn't work as expected or they couldn't tolerate it. A follow-up study found that being a current smoker raised the risk of quitting by 80%, having an enlarged prostate by 74% and believing that bladder medication caused side effects by 111%.

Recent studies have demonstrated that type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is associated with high risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development in patients with chronic hepatitis C. Insulin resistance (IR), which correlates inversely with circulating adiponectin concentration, is a consistent finding in patients with type 2 DM.

Trubion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced the acceptance of two Phase 1 data presentations on SBI-087 (PF-05230895) at the 2010 annual congress of the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) in Rome, Italy. Presentations will include promising data from a Phase 1 study of SBI-087 for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and a Phase 1 study of SBI-087 for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Research investigates MDR in human HCC

Hepatocellular carcinoma responds poorly to chemotherapy owing to MDR. Recent studies have shown the tumors derived from the colon, kidney, or adrenal cortex, and HCC exhibited overexpression of MDR1/P-gp. This overexpression results in a primary MDR phenotype of these cancers.
