European Patent Office intends to grant patent for Intezyne's IVECT Method

Intezyne today announced it has received notification the European Patent Office intends to grant a patent covering a key element of Intezyne's breakthrough drug delivery technology, the IVECT Method. At the core of this technology is the IVECT micelle, a proprietary, polymeric nanoparticle designed to encapsulate and deliver best-in-class therapeutics, while limiting exposure to healthy tissues.

MMV supports Pfizer's AZCQ clinical trial for intermittent preventive treatment of malaria in pregnant women

Pfizer Inc. and Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) entered into an agreement for the development, access and delivery of a fixed-dose combination treatment consisting of azithromycin dihydrate (AZ) and chloroquine phosphate (CQ) for the Intermittent Preventive Treatment of P. falciparum malaria in pregnancy (IPTp). There is currently an unmet need for new treatment options and the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that some 30 million pregnant women are at risk for malaria in endemic areas in Africa each year.

Non-invasive coronary computed tomography angiography is a cost-effective alternative to invasive cardiac catheterization in the care of patients who have positive stress test results but a less than 50 percent chance of actually having significant coronary artery disease, according to a study in the May issue of the American Journal of Roentgenology.

Total drug spending in Canada is estimated to have reached $30.0 billion in 2009, about $1.5 billion more than in 2008, according to a new report released today by the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI). Compugen announces development of PPI Blockers Discovery Platform

Compugen Ltd. announced today the development of its Protein-Protein Interaction Blockers (PPI Blockers) Discovery Platform, designed for the prediction of peptides to block disease associated protein-protein interactions. QF-CMV test helps predict transplant recipients at increased risk of CMV disease after surgery

New international guidelines published in the journal Transplantation reinforce the use of a new type of blood test to assess cytomegalovirus (CMV) risk in solid organ transplant recipients (i.e. transplant recipients). This blood test, QuantiFERON®-CMV (QF-CMV), is the first commercially-available blood test to allow physicians to monitor a person's risk of CMV disease. Most commonly used in the transplant setting, QF-CMV may predict which transplant recipients are at increased risk of CMV disease after transplant surgery.
