BIO-key International, Inc., a leader in finger-based biometric identification solutions, today reported financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2010. For clarity and consistency, the data presented in this release includes only the results of the Company's fingerprint-based Biometrics Division for such period. The Company completed the sale of its Law Enforcement Division on December 8, 2009.

Senate bill offered to allow young adults to stay on parents' FEHBP; Clock ticks on next round for Medicare physician pay fix

This week a senator followed House lawmakers' lead by introducing a bill that would let the children of federal employees remain on their parents' health insurance until age 26, starting this year. Under the health reform law President Obama signed in March, the cutoff age would have increased from 22 to 26 in January 2011 for Federal Employees Health Benefits Program participants, due to laws that prevent the Office of Personnel Management from making midyear changes.

Nationwide Children's Hospital offers new gastric sleeve surgical weight loss procedure

A new weight reduction surgical option is now available through the Center for Healthy Weight and Nutrition at Nationwide Children's Hospital. The newest surgical weight loss procedure offered by the Center is the "gastric sleeve," named as such because a large part of the stomach is removed and the remainder is closed to make a tube-like "sleeve."

A new study led by researchers from Mayo Clinic in collaboration with six other U.S. institutions has found that patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma who smoked, consumed alcohol or were obese before their cancer diagnosis had poorer overall survival, compared to patients who did not have these risk factors.

The study is the latest from the Dartmouth Atlas Project, which [has uncovered] wide differences in spending by region, a finding that became a touchstone in the debate about the need for healthcare reform in the United States."
