Direct RNA sequencing performed using Helicos’ True Single Molecule Sequencing technology

Helicos BioSciences Corporation a life science company focused on innovative genetic analysis technologies, today announced the publication of a landmark study in which Helicos’ True Single Molecule Sequencing (tSMS)™ technology was used to directly sequence individual molecules of RNA. The paper appeared yesterday in the on-line edition of Nature and will appear in an upcoming 2009 print issue of Nature.

CTRC commences patient enrolment in Phase 2 clinical trial of REOLYSIN for metastatic melanoma

Oncolytics Biotech Inc. announced today that the Cancer Therapy Research Center at the University of Texas Health Science Center (CTRC) has started patient enrolment in a U.S. Phase 2 clinical trial using intravenous administration of REOLYSIN(R) in combination with paclitaxel and carboplatin in patients with metastatic melanoma.

Second-quarter fiscal 2010 results announced by Rite Aid

Rite Aid Corporation today reported revenues of $6.3 billion and a net loss of $116.0 million or $.14 per diluted share for its fiscal second quarter ended August 29, 2009. Adjusted EBITDA was $216.5 million or 3.4 percent of revenues.

FRPAA supported by liberal arts colleges

The Presidents of 57 liberal arts colleges in the U.S., representing 22 states, have declared their support for the Federal Research Public Access Act (S. 1373) in an Open Letter released today. The letter is the first from higher education administrators to be issued in support of the 2009 bill, and further reinforcement that support for the Act exists at the highest levels of the higher education community. The presidents' letter notes, "Adoption of the Federal Research Public Access Act will democratize access to research information funded by tax dollars. It will benefit of education, research, and the general public."
