Atlas Antibodies is 20 years old. The company is the original manufacturer of the antibodies used to map the human proteome in the Human Protein Atlas (HPA). Since 2006, it has made these antibodies available to researchers worldwide, and they have been used in thousands of publications.
Where it started
Atlas Antibodies was founded in 2006 by researchers from the HPA project. Their goal was simple: give the wider research community the same antibodies used to map protein expression across human tissues and cells.
20 years of products
- Triple-A Polyclonals™: Antibodies that come directly from the HPA project.
- PrecisA Monoclonals™: Mouse monoclonal antibodies developed in-house since 2012.
- PrEST Antigens: Recombinant protein fragments, available since 2014.
- AtlasPlex™: A kit for custom multiplex IHC on FFPE tissue.
- MolBoolean™: An in situ assay that measures free and bound proteins in the same experiment.
The catalog now includes more than 22,000 Triple-A Polyclonals™ and PrecisA Monoclonals™.
How every antibody is made
- The antigen. Every antibody starts with a PrEST antigen, a recombinant fragment of 50 to 150 amino acids. It is chosen to share as little sequence as possible with other human proteins.
- Selectivity screening. Each antibody is tested on a protein array of 364 human recombinant fragments.
- Tissue validation. Each antibody is validated in IHC on more than 40 normal and cancer tissues. Where approved, it is also tested in WB and ICC-IF.
- Enhanced validation. Many antibodies also pass enhanced validation using orthogonal, genetic, independent antibody, or recombinant expression methods.
Check the data before you order
Each product carries an HPA identifier. Enter it at proteinatlas.org to see the tissue, cell, and blot data behind the product before you buy.
Looking ahead
Twenty years on, the goal is the same: the right protein, in the right tissue, with total confidence.
