    When you consider how important vitamin D is to bone health and immunological function and how these two pointers decline in the elderly, why is this not being preached on the rooftops of care homes???

      They may be hesitant since vitamin d is a fat soluble vitamin and too much can be toxic. They may not want to blindly give something and then face lawsuit because they haven't done labs to confirm what amount that particular patient may need.
