    Out of curiosity, what brand essential oils do you use?  The brand I use there are many of the oils that are extremely safe to ingest and applied without carrier oils, and I have never had an issue.  In fact there are thousands of people who have used this brand of essential oils without issues.  I understand your point of handling them with care and being careful not to ingest as there are many brands (especially the cheap ones in natural food stores) that should NEVER be ingested due the fact of harmful synthetic additives in them (to sell them at cheaper cost).  Keep in mind the cheaper oils have zero health benefit anyway.  Just saying that people should definitely do a thorough research, as not all essential oil brands are of the same quality.
