    A good inducer of autophagy is the drug rapamycin. It does so by inhibiting the protein complex mTOR-C1. Although it was originally used as an immunosuppresant at high doses to prevent organ transplant rejection, later studies in mice and small human clinical trials show that rapamycin or rapamycin analogs improve immune function at low by employing intermittent dosing. Contrary to popular belief, rapamycin has very little side effect and all of them are reversible. Rapamycin used in very high doses for treatment of certain cancers have not shown any appreciable toxicity. It is a much more powerful autophagy inducer than the drugs mentioned above.
