Bringing peak performance from a data sheet to the lab with the Cubis® II

The Cubis® II Ultra-High Resolution Balance from Sartorius is a precise analytical instrument used for weighing extremely small quantities of samples with high precision. In a laboratory setting, its performance may deviate from the specified standards due to varying environmental conditions and influences from samples and users.

The higher the resolution, the greater the relative measurement uncertainty. Thus, these devices are highly sensitive to imperfect laboratory conditions. The primary goal of this study was to design a balance that is less susceptible to environmental effects, enabling faster-weighing workflows and improved specifications.

Aim

This study aims to demonstrate the outstanding performance of the Cubis® II High Capacity Micro Balance under real-world laboratory conditions.

Focus

  • Determining the Minimum sample weight according to USP41 standards across the entire weighing range
  • Eliminating electrostatic effect
  • Assessing performance under drafty conditions, such as in a fume hood
  • Implementing compensation measures against air-pressure variations
