Majority of Americans fail at keeping their New Years resolutions to lose weight and get in shape

Nutritionist Judy Pentra, of Patients Medical, a multi-specialty wellness center in New York, warns that the New Year can be a vulnerable time for people trying to lose weight and get in shape. The average person can gain 2-5 pounds during the holidays and many resolve to lose the weight in January, however, 70 percent of Americans fail at keeping their New Years resolutions.

NHLBI grant for identifying genetic and epigenetic causes of human congenital heart disease

Researchers at Children's Hospital Boston and Brigham and Women's Hospital have received funding from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) to support their search for undiscovered gene defects that cause congenital heart disease. The $4.19 million, 6-year grant is part of the Pediatric Cardiac Genomics Consortium (PCGC), which seeks to identify genetic and epigenetic causes of human congenital heart disease, and relate genetic variants present in the congenital heart disease patient population to clinical outcomes.

Springer Science+Business Media to be acquired by EQT V and GIC Special Investments

EQT V, a leading European private equity fund, and GIC Special Investments (“GICSI”), the private equity arm of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (“GIC”), announce that they have agreed to acquire 100% of Springer Science+Business Media (“Springer“), from its current owners, private equity investors, Candover and Cinven. EQT V intends to buy 82% and GICSI to buy 18% of Springer, the world’s second-largest scientific, technical and medical (“STM”) publisher, and a leader in the digitization of scientific information.
