Preclinical data from two Pulmatrix's PUR118 study to be presented at ERS 2011

Pulmatrix, a clinical stage biotechnology company discovering and developing a new class of therapies for the prevention, treatment and control of respiratory diseases, today announced that data from two preclinical studies of its inhaled clinical drug candidate, PUR118, will be presented at The European Respiratory Society Annual Congress (ERS 2011), being held September 24-28, 2011, in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

USAID launches 'FWD' campaign to raise awareness of famine, drought in Horn of Africa

The PBS NewsHour blog "The Rundown" features an interview with USAID Administrator Rajiv Shah, in which he discusses a new website initiative called "FWD," "aimed at giving viewers a better sense of the scope of the famine in the Horn of Africa -- its worst in more than 60 years." The site includes infographics and data maps "intended to contextualize the problem by showing the recent increase in food prices, where internally displaced peoples camps are located, and where various aid groups are operating," according to the blog.

Aradigm announces two ciprofloxacin Phase 2b study data on non-CF bronchiectasis

Aradigm Corporation today announced it is presenting data on September 26, 2011, from its Phase 2b studies at the ERS Annual Congress in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Boehringer Ingelheim's investigational tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) BIBF 1120 demonstrated a positive trend in reducing lung function decline in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), according to phase II clinical trial results published today online in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Study examines link between gestational age at birth and mortality in young adulthood

In a study that included more than 600,000 individuals born in Sweden between 1973-1979, those born preterm had a higher risk of death during early childhood and young adulthood than persons born at term, according to a study in the September 21 issue of JAMA.

Additional data on safety, tolerability of Cempra's solithromycin to be presented at 51st ICAAC

Cempra Pharmaceuticals today announced abstracts to be presented on its fourth generation macrolide and novel fluoroketolide antibiotic, solithromycin (CEM-101), at the 51st Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC), September 17 to 20, 2011, in Chicago.
