Liverpool to ban the word “obese” - offensive to fat kids!

Liverpool City Council is seriuously considering a ban on the word “obese” because it is offensive to overweight and fat children. They plan to replace it with 'unhealthy weight'. Many parents and health authorities cosider this too much and condemn it as 'preposterous'. This idea originated at a mock parliament held in a Liverpool school manned by around 90 students.

Malaria No More: Jason Castro enters malaria fight to raise awareness of the disease

Atlantic recording artist Jason Castro was introduced to Malaria No More while still an American Idol finalist through the Idol Gives Back charity program, and was shocked to learn that thousands of kids die every day from a disease that's completely preventable and treatable. Malaria No More announces today that Castro has entered the malaria fight as the inaugural "Stayin' Alive" Ambassador, joining a talented list of celebrities who have supported Malaria No More, including Ashton Kutcher, Forest Whitaker, and American Idols Melinda Doolittle and Elliot Yamin, among others.

World first - newborn receives xenon gas in bid to prevent brain injury

In a world first, xenon gas has been successfully delivered to a newborn baby in a bid to prevent brain injury following a lack of oxygen at birth. This pioneering technique was developed by Professor Marianne Thoresen of the University of Bristol and carried out at St Michael’s Hospital, part of University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust.

We are in need of a social security fund on a global scale. That is what scientists of the Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp argue in a Viewpoint in the leading medical journal The Lancet. Such a 'Global Fund for Health' would make the use of international donor money a lot more transparent and efficient.

The latest study based on healthy eating habits conducted by Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York was published in the Journal of National Cancer Institute. PIH to acquire DRMC, signs non-binding letter of intent

Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital (PIH) and Downey Regional Medical Center (DRMC) today announced they had each signed a non-binding letter of intent with plans to execute a definitive agreement calling for PIH's acquisition of DRMC. This will bring together two not-for-profit hospitals both with long standing histories of being dedicated to providing quality care to the communities they serve. The nonbinding letter of intent would allow for the continuation of a nonprofit hospital serving the greater Downey community.

Dutasteride reduces risk of prostate cancer

There is good news for those at high risk for prostate cancer. The drug dutasteride which is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline as the drug Avodart, has been found to reduce the risk of prostate cancer by a quarter. The drug is at present being used to treat enlarged prostates.

Mondial Assistance and the Computerized Airline Sales and Marketing Association announced today that a fundraiser held during a reception at CASMA's spring conference in Montréal raised enough money to purchase a saturation/end tidal carbon dioxide monitor for the Department of Anesthesia at The Montréal Children's Hospital.
