Normal skin is more resilient to cancer than previously thought

Normal skin contains a patchwork of mutated cells, yet very few go on to eventually form cancer and scientists have now uncovered the reason why. Researchers at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and MRC Cancer Unit, University of Cambridge genetically engineered mice to show that mutant cells in skin tissue compete with each other, with only the fittest surviving.

FLX Bio, Inc., a clinical-stage, biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of oral small-molecule drugs that target drivers of cancer and other immune-related disorders, today announced that the first patient has been treated in its Phase 1/2 clinical trial of FLX475 in patients with various advanced cancers. FLX475 is an oral, small molecule CCR4 antagonist that selectively inhibits migration of regulatory T cells into the tumor microenvironment.

CytoSen receives favorable response from FDA to its pre-IND meeting package for CSTD002-NK

CytoSen Therapeutics, a private biopharmaceutical company accelerating innovation in Natural Killer cell therapy, today announced it has received a favorable response from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to its pre-Investigational New Drug meeting package for the proposed Phase 2 trial of CytoSen's adoptive NK cell therapy, CSTD002-NK, for the reduction of relapse in high risk acute myeloid leukemia or myelodysplastic syndrome in patients undergoing haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Study uncovers new molecule involved in regeneration of acute liver wounds

A new study from researchers of CEDOC-NOVA Medical School|Faculdade de Ciências Médicas and Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência, led by Maria Paula Macedo and Carlos Penha-Gonçalves, respectively, published in Hepatology Communications, showed that a molecule CD26/DPP-4 is involved in the regeneration of acute liver wounds and is a promising biomarker for hepatic disease.
