Paragonix Technologies files FDA Pre-Marketing Notification Application for Sherpa Pak Transporter

Paragonix Technologies, Inc. today announced that it has successfully completed filing of a Pre-Marketing Notification Application (510(k)) with the US Food and Drug Administration for its Sherpa Pak Transporter. The Sherpa Pak Transporter is indicated for the static hypothermic preservation of kidneys during transportation and eventual transplantation into a recipient, using cold storage solutions indicated for use with the kidney.

Eurofins Medigenomix, a part of the Eurofins Genomics Business line of Eurofins Scientific and Orion Diagnostica Oy, an in vitro diagnostics company specialising in the development, production and sales of diagnostic test systems, announced that they have signed a co-exclusive technology license agreement. Orion Diagnostic Oy owns the global rights for the SIBA- isothermal nucleic acid detection technology in all fields.

Osteogeneis imperfecta (OI) is a congenital bone disease that causes stunted growth and repeated, painful fracturing. Ultrasound scans can reveal fractures already in the fetus, and now an international team of researchers from Sweden, Singapore and Taiwan have treated two babies in utero by injecting bone-forming stem cells.

In California, in contrast, the pace of enrollment in December has been nearly three times that of a month earlier as the deadline approaches to sign up for coverage that takes effect Jan. 1.

PAM50 FDA-cleared breast cancer test to be launched at ARUP Laboratories

The PAM50 breast cancer signature developed at the University of Utah and Huntsman Cancer Institute received FDA approval and will launch at ARUP Laboratories in Salt Lake City. The test utilizes gene expression data from 50 genes weighted together with clinical variables to generate a risk category and numerical score to assess a patient's risk of distant recurrence at ten years in postmenopausal women with node-negative (Stage I or II) or node-positive (Stage II), Hormone Receptor-Positive (HR+) breast cancer.

OncoSec Medical Inc., a company developing its advanced-stage ImmunoPulse DNA-based immunotherapy to treat solid tumors, today announced positive interim data from its ongoing Phase 2 trial of OMS-I100 in the treatment of metastatic melanoma. Research roundup: Long-term care use varies dramatically by state; health spending slowdown explained

In 2012, about 58,500 paid, regulated long-term care services providers served about 8 million people in the United States. Long-term care services were provided by 4,800 adult day services centers, 12,200 home health agencies, 3,700 hospices, 15,700 nursing homes, and 22,200 assisted living and similar residential care communities. Each day in 2012, there were 273,200 participants enrolled in adult day services centers, 1,383,700 residents in nursing homes, and 713,300 residents in residential care communities; in 2011, about 4,742,500 patients received services from home health agencies, and 1,244,500 patients received services from hospices. Provider sectors differed in ownership, and average size and supply varied by region (Harris-Kojetin et al., 12/12).
