Thermo Fisher Scientific announces record $2.84 billion revenue in fourth-quarter 2009

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, reported that revenues increased 7% to a record $2.84 billion in the fourth quarter of 2009, compared with $2.65 billion in the 2008 quarter. The revenue growth reflects the impact of currency translation, which increased revenues by 3%, and the effect of acquisitions, which also increased revenues by 3%.

Zimmer Holdings reports net sales of $1.11 billion for the fourth-quarter of 2009

Zimmer Holdings, Inc. today reported financial results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2009. The Company reported fourth quarter net sales of $1.11 billion, an increase of 7.5% reported and 2.5% constant currency over the fourth quarter of 2008. Diluted earnings per share for the quarter were $0.74 reported and $1.12 adjusted, an increase of 12.0% adjusted over the prior year period.

Cees Veerman committee recommends continuation of TI Pharma in its present form

Top Institute Pharma (TI Pharma) enables unique public-private collaborations that are extremely valuable for pharmaceutical research in the Netherlands. This can be read in the Midterm Review (MTR) of the Top Institute, which was published today. In the report, an independent committee chaired by Cees Veerman concludes that TI Pharma is well on its way to achieving the objectives that were determined at the time of its establishment. The institute addresses issues with marked social relevance, attracts international investments and has brought forth a group of quality researchers.

Waters sales rise 3%, E.P.S. grows 5% in fourth quarter

Waters Corporation reported fourth quarter 2009 sales of $429 million, an increase of 3% from sales of $418 million in the fourth quarter of 2008. In the quarter, foreign currency translation increased sales growth rate by 4% and on a currency neutral basis, sales decreased by 1% in comparison to the prior year’s fourth quarter sales. On a GAAP basis, earnings per diluted share (E.P.S.) for the fourth quarter were $1.08, compared to $1.01 for the fourth quarter of 2008. On a non-GAAP basis, including the adjustments in the attached reconciliation, E.P.S. grew 5% to $1.12 from $1.07 in the fourth quarter of 2008.

ERA-NET PathoGenoMics, an initiative of the European Commission aimed at advancing transnational genome-based research programs on human-pathogenic microorganisms, announced today the third international joint call. Biomet reports second quarter financial results for fiscal 2010

Biomet, Inc. net sales increased 8% during the second fiscal quarter ended November 30, 2009, to $695.6 million from $642.8 million during the second quarter of fiscal year 2009. On a constant currency basis, net sales increased 5% during the second quarter of fiscal 2010.

American Diabetes Association recommends A1C test for diagnosing diabetes and identifying pre-diabetes

The American Diabetes Association's new Clinical Practice Recommendations being published as a supplement to the January issue of Diabetes Care call for the addition of the A1C test as a means of diagnosing diabetes and identifying pre-diabetes. The test has been recommended for years as a measure of how well people are doing to keep their blood glucose levels under control.
