Researchers discover new gene for Sensenbrenner syndrome

Dutch researchers of the Radboud University Medical Center in Nijmegen found a new gene for Sensenbrenner syndrome (Journal of Medical Genetics, 2011 Mar 4). The mutation adds support to the hypothesis that defects in ciliar transport are the cause of the disease. Project leader Dr. Heleen H. Arts is supported by a Kolff Junior Postdoc Grant of the Dutch Kidney Foundation.

A team of researchers from the United States and Europe has identified a single genetic mutation in the CUBN gene that is associated with albuminuria both with and without diabetes. Combination therapy may reduce albuminuria in patients with type 2 diabetes: Study

Results from a Phase 2, 8-week dose-ranging study using low doses of atrasentan in patients with diabetic kidney disease were published this week in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology. The published study results suggest that atrasentan, used in conjunction with renin-angiotensin system inhibitors, may reduce albuminuria (presence of protein in urine) for patients with type 2 diabetes.

Baxter announces European rMRP approval of PREFLUCEL seasonal influenza vaccine
