Ovulation is the process in a female's menstrual cycle by which a mature ovarian follicle ruptures and discharges an ovum (also known as an oocyte, female gamete, or casually, an egg). Ovulation also occurs in the estrous cycle of other female mammals, which differs in many fundamental ways from the menstrual cycle. The time immediately surrounding ovulation is referred to as the ovulatory phase or the periovulatory period.

Doctors have known for some time that children born after fertility treatments such as in vitro fertilisation (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) are at increased risk of cerebral palsy. Agile presents AG200-15 contraceptive patch Phase 2 clinical study results at 66th ASRM

Agile Therapeutics announced results today from a Phase 2 clinical study of AG200-15, Agile's weekly contraceptive patch containing ethinyl estradiol (EE) in combination with levonorgestrel (LNG). According to the clinical findings, AG200-15 provides a low daily dose of estrogen equivalent to 30 micrograms EE, similar to that in low-dose, oral contraceptive (OC) pills.

ESHRE study shows advantages of CGH technique in IVF procedure

Two women taking part in the world's first controlled study of a comprehensive genetic screening test before IVF have given birth to healthy babies. The babies, twin girls born in Germany in June and a singleton boy born in Italy in September, are the first deliveries in a pilot study of comparative genomic hybridisation (CGH) by microarray, a new method of screening oocytes for IVF for a full range of chromosomal disorders.

Oral contraceptives equally effective for obese women

The first study to compare the effectiveness of the birth control pill in women with marked weight differences has found that the pill works equally well in women with obesity and thinner women. This new finding by physician-scientists at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center refutes a long-held conviction among many doctors that the pill may not reliably prevent pregnancy in women who are overweight or obese.
