New technique offers successful bone marrow, organ transplant for patients with autoimmune diseases

University of Minnesota Medical School researchers have discovered a method to quickly and exponentially grow regulatory T-cells - also known as "suppressor cells." The new process enables replication of the cells by tens of millions in several weeks, a dramatic increase over previous duplication methods. Historically, regulatory T-cells have been difficult to replicate.

GPSA, Sanofi partner to develop and commercialize GBR 500 for inflammatory disease treatment

Glenmark Pharmaceuticals S.A, a wholly owned subsidiary of Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Limited India, announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Sanofi to grant Sanofi a license for the development and commercialization of GBR 500, a novel monoclonal antibody for the treatment of Crohn's Disease and other inflammatory conditions.

New Crohn’s disease therapy on its way

In a new study on a drug called Stelara (ustekinumab) it was seen that 40% patients with moderate to severe Crohn's disease responded. Stelara, which is already approved to treat psoriasis, is a human interleukin (IL)-12 and IL-23 antagonist marketed by Centocor Ortho Biotech Inc. The study findings were presented at Digestive Disease Week 2011.
