$1.3 million in NIH funding to enable drug delivery technology research

Two National Institute of Health grants totaling over $1.3 million will enable research into antibody-mediated drug delivery technology for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune disorders. L. Nathan Tumey, assistant professor of pharmaceutical sciences at Binghamton University, State University of New York, is the Principal Investigator on both grants - $1.2 million from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences and $150,000 from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

In an observational study, Mayo Clinic researchers report that the combination of casirivimab and imdevimab - two monoclonal antibody treatments under Food and Drug Administration emergency use authorization - keep high-risk patients out of the hospital when infected with mild to moderate COVID-19. The findings appear in The Lancet's EClinicalMedicine.

They have identified specific plasma proteins that can accurately predict the clinical and virological outcomes in SARS-CoV-2 infected patients. They have used a biochemical approach to control the glycosylation profile of the S protein receptor-binding domain (RBD) and to analyze the effect of different glycosylation patterns on receptor binding.
