The Guardian examines efforts to reduce malaria in Katine, Uganda, through the distribution of insecticide-treated nets to high-risk groups. Though the article details a reduction in the number of malaria cases in the region, additional nets are needed to cover the entire population. Also, health experts warn additional strategies, such as indoor residual spraying and increased access to drugs are needed to defeat malaria (Kavuma, 10/8).

Hospira and Celltrion agree to develop and market eight biogeneric products

Hospira, Inc., the world leader in generic injectable pharmaceuticals, today signed a Business Cooperation Agreement with South Korea-based Celltrion, Inc. and Celltrion Healthcare, Inc. ("Celltrion"), which outlines the business terms of a future distribution agreement for the United States, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Canada for eight biogeneric products that are currently under development by Celltrion, five of which are incremental to Hospira's pipeline.

Angiochem to announce clinical study results of ANG1005 drug

Employers are effectively controlling drug benefit costs and utilization, according to research findings in the Pharmacy Benefit Management Institute's (PBMI) 2009-2010 Prescription Drug Benefit Cost and Plan Design Report. PBMI's employer survey shows the average rate of increase in drug costs has dropped to 4.4%, the lowest rate of increase since PBMI began conducting the study in 1995.
