A specific MicroRNA, a short set of RNA (ribonuclease) sequences, naturally packaged into minute (50 nanometers) lipid containers called exosomes, are released by stem cells after a stroke and contribute to better neurological recovery according to a new animal study by Henry Ford Hospital researchers.

Through a $300,000 grant from Administration of Children and Families, part of Department of Health and Human Services, Debra Zand, Ph.D., associate professor of pediatrics at Saint Louis University, will study treatment services offered by a local community provider to St. Louis area women who abuse illegal substances, and for their infants and toddlers.

LUHS pediatrician helps collect leftover supplies from schools for children in need

At the end of every school year, Dr. Carla Minutti, pediatric endocrinologist at Loyola University Health System, was surprised by the amount of school supplies her two children brought home. She hatched an idea that connected families at Lincoln Elementary School in River Forest with Loyola Medical Center doctors and students to provide the leftover supplies to children around the world.
